Welcome to our July Newsletter
Three classrooms have a roof!
All of the “Team Roof” volunteers are back home safe and sound and the roof is on the three classrooms at Good Foundation School. We completed what we set out to achieve and it feels great!
After about 16 days of non-stop work, just one day off in the middle, we decided to call it a day. Everyone was worn out, tired, and needed some reprieve before heading back to reality.
We handed over the work to a group of local carpenters. They picked up where we left off the day after we left. The 3 classrooms now have a roof and very soon we will be putting in the windows, doors and flooring.
It’s only a matter of time before 3 lucky classes will move from the old school into the new one. The children are extremely excited and it has returned hope that very soon the rest of their school will be done after such a long wait.
The New Zealand based, Choose Love Ghana team are taking a much needed admin break for the next 3 weeks. After this, you can expect to see more updates, detailed plans to finish the school, and eventually more volunteer opportunities and fundraising events later in the year.

July Feature - Days for Girls Nelson donates 120 reusable menstrual kits
Just before Kelsie left the village she organised and delivered a Days for Girls International lesson with Madam Theresa.
The girls shared their tradition "bragoro" with Kelsie which was very interesting and insightful.
Traditionally, when a young girl experiences her first menstruation, that is menarche, she undergoes this rite called Bragoro. It is believed that this ushers her into womanhood.
Bragoro, also known as Brapue, is a puberty rite performed by the Akans especially among the Ashantis in Ghana.
The topics covered in these lessons were; the menstrual cycle, hygiene, and feeling empowered with the knowledge of how their bodies work and of course, getting the most out of these kits which can be used for up to 3+ years.
The point of these lessons is to help remove the stigma around menstruation and puberty and increase the access to menstrual care and education.
The girls from GFS have all taken home their reusable menstrual kits and we also shared a few with the mothers and school food vendors.
