Recent Updates

We have raised nearly $12,000 NZD in total this year - We need $25,000 to see the entire school completed
We now have enough funds to put the roof on at least three classrooms and make some repairs to the old school to help it last a bit longer
Kelsie Kawharu and Kerry Vass have booked their tickets to join the team in Ghana in June.

We’ve got 120 reusable menstrual kits going to Good Foundation School!Back in 2020, Jaimee and Megan were contacted by Debra, from Days for Girls Nelson NZ, after she saw an article in a Nelson paper about the school rebuild in Ghana.

Days for Girls NZ is a registered not-for-profit charity in New Zealand and is a Country Affiliate with Days for Girls International. Volunteers across New Zealand mobilize to increase access to menstrual products and vital health information for women and girls around the world. Their main goal is “Let’s shatter the stigma of menstruation.”

Debra coordinated the local team in Nelson to provide us with 100 kits to take with us to Ghana. Megan, alongside local women in Tetrem, delivered the lessons and distributed the pack to not only the girls at Good Foundation School but also their mothers, teachers, and staff members. Even some of the builders working on the school rebuild took some kits home for their wives. It was a great experience for all involved!

This time, Days for Girls now has a base in Ghana! Local women sew the kits, earning an income and sell to local women/girls at an affordable price. DfG Ghana oversees the operations of 27 teams.

Once again, Debra got in touch with us and organised 120 more kits to distribute on this trip. She also reached out to other centres around New Zealand, including Matamata and Christchurch to seek assistance in funding these kits.

Days for Girls - Ghana advocates for menstrual equity throughout West Africa. DfG Ghana oversees the operations of 27 enterprises in the sub-region including Togo, Sierra-Leone, Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast. Their enterprise network continues to grow while they ensure quality outcomes through gold certification, site supports visits and period capacity building. The enthusiasm, resilience, and commitment of our enterprise team is their biggest asset.

We are so honoured and excited to collect 120 kits when we arrive in Accra in a couple of weeks. This time, Kelsie Kawharau will work with Good Foundation School teachers and girls to deliver the health education lessons and distribute these beautiful kits to all who need them.
